At one of the most difficult times of David’s life, as he ran from Saul, David took time alone in a cave to talk to God (Psalm 57). When Jesus knew hard things were coming he went away alone (Matthew 14:23). He was not really alone though. He was with His Father.
We get so easily wrapped up in the hustle and bustle of the world: making sure we catch every game of the NBA finals, never forgetting to call each grandchild on their birthday, catching up on all the backlogged work you have, paying bills, maintaining friendships, volunteering with your church family, quality time with the kids, etc. It is easy to forget the most important relationship we have.
When is the last time you spent a day with God. I mean a whole day, not just a couple of worship services on a Sunday or a day where you prayed a few more times than usual. Have you ever given Him a whole day? Have you sat down with a bible and a pad to read through a whole book of the Bible as you jot down questions to answer later? Have you gone to the lake just to sit or walk and talk to him for a few hours? Are you just too busy with everything else in life? God pleads with us for quality time. He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth” (Psalm 46:10).
